Location: San Francisco, CA
Type: Adaptive Reuse – Office, Art Gallery, and Penthouse
This 1917 office building is located between San Francisco’s historic Curran Theater and Clift Hotel. It’s undergone a seismic retrofit and full renovation of the MEP systems as well as the vertical circulation system.
The gallery is a deep, low space that serves as a backdrop for contemporary art. It includes an intimate private exterior terrace.
Upper floors are reached via elevator or the retrofitted original staircase. The second floor hosts artist offices and studio space. Office suites occupy the third, fourth, and fifth floors, complete with historic window-lines on the north and south sides. The sixth floor and penthouse levels accommodate the personal residence of the owner and feature panoramic city views.
The existing structure is revealed throughout the building, where it acts as a contrast to the new improvements.
